Introduction
  Dr Alka Pande is currently a Consultant Arts Advisor and Curator of the Visual Arts Gallery at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.

With two post graduate degrees, one in History and the second in History of Art, a phD from Panjab University, she was formerly Head of Department of Fine Arts Panjab University and the Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Panjab University.

Recipient of the Charles Wallace Award in 1999-2000, Dr Pande completed her post-doctoral studies in critical art theory from Goldsmith College, University of London.

She has been responsible for curating several significant and perceptive exhibitions in India and abroad, and given a name to some of the most upcoming and influential artists, photographers and sculptors.

Dr Pande is also a Visiting Faculty for ‘Aesthetics’ at the Delhi College of Art. She has a wide range of academic papers and lectures on diverse aspects of the arts to her credit. Alka Pande at the moment is engaged with art, aesthetics and the notions of Indian beauty, her next book deals with Shringara: Eternal Beauty.

Dr Alka Pande is a prolific writer on Indology and art history and is the author of several books, which are well acclaimed, with a few in foreign language translations. With a special interest in Ancient Indian Erotic literature and art, Dr Pande has done extensive and in-depth study on the Indian erotic literature. Another of her publications awaiting release is ‘An Anthology on Erotic Indian Literature’ to be brought out by Penguin India. Alka has been working in the area of gender, identity, visual arts and Indian aesthetics.

In December 2006, she was awarded Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres - Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters - award bequeathed by the French government, to recognise significant contributions in the fields of art and literature.
